Needs Assesment
How did you feel when you got your childs needs assessment report back?
I just finished Skimming over ours, and i had to stop, just made me feel horrible inside, just with everything put in a negative light, made me out to be a half crazed woman. hahahaha (which if i have to honest is probably the truth half the time.) It was a bit hard just seeing it all written out like that, and now i feel guilty for feeling horrible. I know the needs assessment is for a good reason, but im not really listening to my logically self, arghh blimin' emotions are gonna be the end of me at the rate im going. Wish i could take an emotional holiday.... need to calm my nerves.
Sorry for the rant, just had to let that out. I know i should go finished reading it just in case i want to add anything then sent it off... but cant face it right now

I found all the questions a bit depressing and despite the assessor saying she would offer carer support the actual report just said I was managing fine and din't need any help at that time. Later it was reviewed and I got carer support though.
Re: Needs Assesment
Im feeling a whole lot better now, i think i just needed to get that off my chest.
Now, im just going to sit back see what happens next.
Thanks for reading my vent.

our GSE ones are always very positive thankfully. we have a wonderful EIT though, very intelligent and also very caring. will be sad when we finish with her in a year
Re: Needs Assesment
I think with our needs assessment for Ian they based their decision on seeing him with me at home; at the time he was in his "monkey" phase where he used me like a jungle gym and the lady doing the assessment said she wouldn't cope so put us down for definitely getting carer support.
Re: Needs Assesment
After our first NA we got the bare minimum of days. I was still going through my 'show everyone I can cope' phase. We were recently reviewed (we moved cities) and I was really honest about how damn hard this road can be. We got more. But the questions suck, I felt like I was being disloyal to christian by stating the facts. There should be a section at the end where you can put all the positive, amazing stuff about your child.

For me it lasted about 2 years I think, for Dh it's still going as until recently he didn't try to stop Ian and I did.

so did you just saying no and retsraining him? The monkey bit isn't so so bad here but the touching/pinching/mouthing me is so so so constant. But when I say no he gets distressed.
Re: Needs Assesment
It was partly saying No, and partly moving away when it started. I didn't do it for everything, he's still allowed to touch me if he needs to. We didn't get the pinching or mouthing so much; though I did remove hands if they went down my top; what was cute when he was 2 wasn't when he was 5.
Re: Needs Assesment
Well, our NA lady rang me today to say we got allocated 12 carer support days and a refferal to Nurse Maude for incontinence issues & nappies etc.
I havent received all the info yet, but she was sending me some website links & posting some info out.

so did they say you would get some free nappies or anything? I thought that was for 5+ . Mikko is still in nappies at 4 years but our assessment was done when he was still 2.

Re: Needs Assesment
Not too sure about how many free nappies etc, just know that:
"Nurse Maude's Continence Advisory Service provides confidential support, assessment, treatment, education and continence products for anyone over four years of age"

Re: Needs Assesment
You can get free nappies through your local DHB if your child is over 4 years and still in nappies full time. Think you need to book an appointment through the incontinence clinic.
Just wondering how may days carer relief people are getting around the country? We are getting 12 days per year and our child has severe ASD. He is 4.
Thanks

I get 20, my son is also 4. I don't know if it makes any difference but when I had mine reviewed I mentioned that all my kids were under the paeds care and youngest also with GSE so that might be why I get more, not sure though.
